Street Child is a UK charity which aims to provide educational opportunities for some of the world’s most vulnerable children. We began our work in Sierra Leone in 2008, with just four social workers and working with a handful of children. We now work in five countries in West Africa and South Asia, with a current focus on education in emergencies and girls’ education, and have helped over 60,000 children to go to school.
Overseas projects are currently paused due to Covid-19. The below information is provided to give you an idea of the projects that usually run each summer. We will update these pages when international projects are able to go ahead again.
Street Child runs a unique volunteering programme, offering students the chance to work alongside our local teams and gain valuable experience in the development sector. You’ll get stuck into projects that are making a real impact on the lives of vulnerable children and have a challenging and exciting experience that you’ll never forget.
We have opportunities in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nepal and Sri Lanka, working on topics such as education, gender inequality, street children and family business support, and we can offer placements from anywhere between 2 – 12 weeks.
This is a self-funded programme and volunteers pay for their flights, visa, and insurance. There is a daily rate when in country which is £7-£10 and covers accommodation, work related travel and airport transfers. On some programmes it will also cover meals for breakfast and lunch.
Fundraising is required for all volunteers of £1,000. This is a great experience to spread awareness of the work Street Child does. Volunteers will be supported by a fundraising mentor who has has experience in fundraising and has helped successful volunteers hit their targets.
