Girl Guides Rwanda

Overseas opportunities with Girl Guides Rwanda are currently paused. More information will be provided here as and when the opportunities are back up and running.

Association des Guides du Rwanda (AGR) is a national NGO with the aim of enabling girls and young women to acquire skills for their development and to become agents of positive change. AGR has more than 15,000 members and is affiliated with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), the largest voluntary movement dedicated to the empowerment of girls and young women.

Volunteering opportunities usually include:

  • Designing manuals/booklets for the Bergeronnettes (5 – 12 years old).
  • Re-energising the AGR brand through online presence.
  • Helping to develop suitable and sustainable partnerships.
  • Developing policies and strategies to recruit and maintain our volunteers.
  • Fundraising to deliver high quality programmes.
  • Helping with monitoring and evaluation.

  • All students are welcome to apply, including final years and postgrads.
  • All volunteers must be aged 19 or over when they arrive on placement.
  • Rwanda Girl Guides require volunteers to be passionate, fast learners who have some basic knowledge in their chosen project area and good writing skills.
  • Placements are available all year round.
  • Once signed up through Volunteer Hub, AGR will contact you to fill out a volunteering form. If your application is accepted AGR will organise a Skype induction, to go over safety guidelines, calendar of events and volunteering you will be doing.
  • Volunteers will be met at the airport and transport provided to their accommodation.
  • Accommodation will be based near the AGR Centre in Kigali, a vibrant and modern African city and is likely to be a shared flat or house.
  • A team of AGR volunteers will run the induction programme during the first week.
  • Total project costs per month including accommodation, food and transport is estimated at £600.

  • Volunteers are required to cover the cost of their flights (approx. £750), vaccinations, personal insurance and spending money in addition to the above project costs.
