Trusted Partners

Our Trusted Partners are organisations that run international volunteering opportunities that we have measured carefully against a set of criteria to ensure they are ethical, safe and sustainable. These partners work around the world to deliver needs-based volunteering, delivered in consultation with the local communities they seek to benefit.

The Trusted Partners listed in yellow below will be running overseas opportunities this summer. Many are also continuing to run remote or UK based volunteering opportunities for those who wish to volunteer from home, so you don't need to fly overseas to help! Those listed in purple are offering remote or UK based-opportunities only as their overseas projects are currenlty paused.

You can also find an overview of all our partners through our International Volunteering Cribsheet

Trusted Partners are organisations who run international volunteering opportunities that the University has vetted.  The projects they run are not official University of Manchester projects, but we have undertaken a number of checks on them and believe that they offer a well thought out, safe and ethical experience for any student wishing to volunteer overseas.
We know that many students wish to volunteer overseas but that it can be really hard to navigate the number of organisations offering opportunities.  How do you know that they are genuine organisations, that they are not just making money out of volunteers and that they are providing opportunities that really make a difference to host communities?  Trusted Partners have been checked against a number of criteria and we are confident that they provide good experience for volunteers.
We look at a range of areas when considering an organisation who wants to become a Trusted Partner.  These include their overall purpose, the way they work with communities, the processes they have in place to support volunteers, their emergency procedures and what they are charging for.
Whilst all our Trusted Partners have been checked out to meet certain criteria for appropriate and professionally managed overseas volunteering projects, The University of Manchester provides a brokerage service to these organisations and opportunities only. The responsibility for the projects and supporting volunteers falls with the organisation. This support includes preparation and training, support in-country and managing any emergencies.
Students considering volunteering with a Trusted Partner are responsible for booking with the Trusted Partner directly.  They will also need to sort out their own travel, health, and insurance arrangements. Students are advised to read our guidance on preparing for volunteering overseas.
