Expectations of participation

When making an application you must confirm that you have taken the following steps: 

  • Spoken to the relevant Trusted Partner and secured an offer of a place on a project (you do not have to have paid the registration fee); 
  • Read the guidance on Preparing to Volunteer Overseas and considered the relevant factors, including wellbeing and health and safety when choosing your overseas volunteering project; 
  • Applied for the relevant overseas volunteering opportunity on Volunteer Hub, which must be done in addition to completing any application directly to the Trusted Partner. 
  • Read the FAQ’s and the Terms and Conditions (as listed on these web pages) relating to the Trusted Partners Bursary including the Health and Safety (Terms and Conditions 2024-25).

Prior to departure you must: 

  • Consider the risks associated with travelling and volunteering overseas, with reference to the specific country and location that you will be travelling to, the project and tasks being undertaken, and any personal health and wellbeing considerations and be committed to undertaking a personal risk assessment prior to travel; 
  • Ensure that any travel you have arranged in connection with your overseas volunteering adheres to the most up-to-date government guidelines in relation to travel restrictions that apply to the country you are travelling to. Foreign travel advice is available via Foreign travel advice - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) where you can get the latest updates on safety, security and travel warnings; 
  • Read the guidance on What to do in an emergency; 
  • Take out relevant travel insurance once your place on the project is confirmed and understand the details of what is and is not covered; 
  • Contact the Volunteering and Awards Team for any additional support and guidance for example in relation to pre-project preparation and/or fundraising.
