The Team Myanmar project (part of 'eTekkatho', which means 'e-University' in Burmese!) is one of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences social responsibility initiatives. The project has partners with 24 universities across Myanmar (Burma). We provide skills in teaching and learning materials to research and IT capacity building training to students and academics in Myanmar.
Working with partner universities, has enabled us to recognise that often students and academics have great academic English, but struggle with the more day-to-day aspects of the language, and that's where University of Manchester student volunteers can help! You main task will be to work with Students and Academics to help boost their conversational English language skills and help progress their grammar skills.

After having successfully delivered Conversational English course for two years at one of partner Universities, this year we are aiming to continue our positive work by seeking to recruit 5 volunteer students to teach Conversational English course to academics and students at Loikaw University, Kayah State in Myanmar.
Voice from one of our last year volunteers:
“Overall it was a really positive experience, challenging & rewarding in ways I didn’t expect. It felt like the Myanmar students really benefitted from the English course.
