Meet our 2021 Student Nominees!

Even with the challenges the COVID pandemic has brought we received some great nominations of students doing amazing things!  The judges had to make difficult decisions with such a strong field.  You can find out the result of the judges' decision making by watching our event on YouTube.

Alliance Manchester Business School

Emilija facilitates art sessions at The Mustard Tree. She is also a peer buddy.

Kailin volunteered on the UN Africa CAMAAY project, bringing change to orphans and vunerable children.

Michael is a shift leader for Student Angels, providing support to people sleeping rough on the streets.

Shiying is a volunteer mentor with ReachOut, supporting a mentee to grow in attainment and character.

School of Arts, Languages and Cultures

Abigail is project leader of the Refugee and Asylum Seeker Conversation Club.

Eleanor is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Ella is a volunteer mentor with ReachOut, supporting a mentee to grown in character and attainment.

Isabel is Homelessness Projects Coordinator and Vice-Chair of Student Action.  She also leads 'Once a Month' which this year has expanded to eight other universities.

Lucy is one of the project leaders for 'Want Not Waste'.

School of Biological Sciences

Emma is a Brownie leader with Girlguiding UK and also holds regional and national roles, including one helping to set up Guiding in deprived areas.

Mara is a shift leader with Student Angels, providing support to people sleeping rough on the streets.

Megan leads two Brownie units, volunteers with the 'Best Start Communities Count' Project distributing fruit and veg parcels and has also been running dance classes over Zoom during lockdown!

School of Engineering

Keyi is Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society, which incudes running knowledge-exchange events. 

Leonor is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Nainika is a volunteer for Student Angels, providing support to people sleeping rough on the streets.

Rudraksh supports fellow students with anxiety and mental health issues.

Siwei is Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society - Manchester chapter, which has included running online events throughout the past year.

School of Environment, Education and Development

Eric supports the 'Want Not Waste' shop and has led on sustainability events this year.

Lily is a volunteer mentor with ReachOut, supporting a mentee to grown in character and attainment.

School of Health Sciences

Hannah is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Hope volunteers in a local primary school, working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children, through City Year UK.

Morgan is a buddy on the Intergen buddy scheme, and calls on older person several times a week for a chat.

Natasha is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Trinity is a volunteer mentor with ReachOut, supporting a mentee to grown in character and attainment.

Viktoriya is co-project leader for the Intergen Buddy Scheme, as well as volunteering on the 'Shout' crisis text line.

School of Medical Sciences

Alisha is project leader of Manchester Outreach Medics, supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to get into medical school.

Helena is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Saif founded NHS Supporters, a national team of medical students providing support to NHS staff during the pandemic.

Tara stepped up during the pandemic, including as a good samaritan, putting together creative care kits and providing tutoring to GCSE students.

School of Natural Sciences

Caterina supports MayaCare CIC, which provides training and employemnt to people with disabilities in India.

Denis is a shift leader for Student Angels, providing support to people sleeping rough on the streets.

Egle is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

George is part of the SU peer buddy scheme.

Jiayu manages the Blue Letters Left Behind Children Care Centre project, recruiting student volunteers to write letters to children in China who don't live with their parents.

Tessa spent the summer helping refugees in Calais and since she returned has volunteered with SolidariTee as well as providing English lessons to immigrant families.
