Student Groups 3rd place

Dental Team Gulu, School of Medical Sciences

This student-led project involves student dentists travelling to rural Uganda where they set up their outreach clinics under a gazebo, in a field with garden chairs for operating on whilst maintaining cross infection control to ensure patients can be treated. The students have treated over 800 patients on their outreaches and in the hospital.

Through extraction of teeth the patients have immeasurable impact ridding patients of pain whom otherwise would have no access to a dental service. The aim of the project is to eventually see such a reduction in dental need in the region through effective prevention of disease, with the hope of great change within the community.
