Student 3rd place.

Thomas Lewis, School of Natural Sciences

Thomas is the President of Run Wild Manchester, a student recreational running society.  Thomas organises events, leads group runs, uses sessions to raise awareness of social issues including mental health and LGBT equality, and has formed a Women’s only running group. Thomas has volunteered several times at local community events and organised a mass-volunteering session at Alexandra parkrun during National Student Volunteer week.

He manages a team of 36 volunteers, overseeing 1200 volunteering hours in this academic year. He built an automated system for attendance, volunteering hours and assigning volunteers to groups, helping to engage, support and recognise the time and effort they give. Additionally, Thomas came up with the idea of the Manchester 24 Hour Run against Homelessness and helped to make it happen, raising £2,826.84 for the Manchester Mayor’s charity A Bed Every Night.

Thomas has had a massive impact on the running community at the University, encouraging many people to become more active and to gain the mental, physical, and social benefits of doing so, whilst raising awareness of important social issues.
