As a student from the Alliance Manchester Business School, you can make a real impact on the local community by using your subject knowledge and skills in your volunteering. Many small charities and community organisations in Manchester could benefit from volunteers to support them with developing a business plan, identifying potential funding streams or creating innovative solutions to a specific challenge.
There is always a large number of volunteering opportunities in marketing and social media. For example, you could manage a small charity’s social media accounts or help to develop their marketing strategy. If you’re interested in social enterprise you could volunteer with Enactus Manchester, and if you’d like to use your skills in a customer service volunteering role, you could volunteer on a fundraising project or in the charity retail sector.
Charities and community organisations sometimes contact us looking for business students for a specific project, so get in touch if you haven’t yet found the volunteering role you’re looking for, as there might be new opportunities we can tell you about.
You may also want to think about specific skills you want to develop as you may be able to do this through volunteering opportunities that are not necessarily related to your degree.
Enactus is an international organisation dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. It provides a platform for teams of students to create community development projects, both locally and overseas. Enactus Manchester currently has a series of projects here in Manchester and in other parts of the world.
Social media marketing, fundraising and retail volunteering
Volunteering opportunities in social media, fundraising and retail are commonly advertised on The University’s Volunteer Hub, which showcases a wide range of roles with organisations in Manchester and further afield. Use the search filters to browse opportunities in your area of interest or study, or search for something completely different to your degree.
If you’re not sure about what volunteering you would like to do or you would like to chat through some of these opportunities, the Volunteering Team is here to help!
Drop in to the Atrium (1st floor University Place) Mondays 12-1pm or Wednesdays 1-2pm. If you can’t make a drop-in, you can call or email us to arrange a meeting.

“Volunteering has given me an amazing experience, something I can really talk about in job interviews and something that gives me the opportunity to stand out and that I’m proud of.”
